One of our company values is centered around working efficiently and with focus. We’re not big fans of multi-tasking. Team members are asked to turn off all desktop notifications. These are little pop-ups on your computer that notify you of messages from email, social media, calendar reminders, instant messaging, etc.
This allows us to be in control of our attention rather than permitting software applications to whip us around by the tail–grabbing our attention without our permission. This approach requires discipline on our part due to a conditioned FOMO (fear of missing out).
The other method we use to stay focused and productive is called The Secret Weapon which combines the ideas of the book, Getting Things Done with Evernote. Here are the step-by-step instructions.
1. Watch this video only up until 6:00.
2. Download the Evernote Software
Navigate to https://evernote.com/download to download the Evernote software to your computer. Although you will have an Evernote account and be able to login to the cloud or browser version of the software, the cloud version that you can access through your browser is not compatible with the way we use Evernote on our desktop.
3. Set Up Evernote
Schedule an Evernote Set-up session with a team member in order to get your Evernote set up correctly.
Here is a video to show the current view in my Evernote:
4. Add your Evernote email as a contact in your Gmail account
5. How to process email
6. Daily use of Evernote
7. Special Tips and things to avoid
8. Reference items
9. Watch “Why this matters” video
