I started building websites in 2006 with no idea what SEO even meant. I just knew I loved taking a concept and making it appear digitally in the form of a website. Years later, I discovered that SEO wasn’t just technical; it was a way to help people find what they’re looking for. I have a background in Spanish Linguistics that allowed me to see SEO as a language to learn. Now I lead SEO Training and Strategy for clients across industries. One of my deepest passions is helping businesses and organizations get found online.

Emily Journey & Associates delivers private, hands-on WordPress training in person, at our offices or at your place of business across the U.S. and Canada, or live over Zoom. Every training is two 4-hour sessions with 60 days of follow-up support, conducted in your own website: you do the work, and your instructor guides it. Pricing varies by group size, not by delivery method, with travel billed for on-site training. One important difference between formats: virtual sessions are recorded for you to keep, and in-person sessions are not.

This page covers how each format works and how to choose between them. For pricing and the full syllabus, start with our WordPress training page.

In person, on site, or virtual: how each works

At our offices

Classic in-person training: you, your instructor, and your website, in the same room for two hands-on 4-hour sessions. Bring your laptop and your list of grievances with your website; we’ll work through both. Our WordPress training locations page lists the cities where we offer training.

At your place of business

We travel for on-site training across the U.S. and Canada, with travel billed in addition to the training package. Teams often choose on-site training: everyone in one room, working in the company website, with the agenda built around each participant’s role. Larger organizations sometimes require that training happen in a staging copy of the website; we plan those details with your IT folks in advance.

Over Zoom

Virtual training is conducted as two 4-hour sessions with screen sharing, and for most of each session we’re viewing your screen, because you’re the one doing the work. Every Zoom session is recorded, and the recordings are yours to keep, which means every explanation your instructor gives can be replayed the day you need it again.

What happens inside the sessions, whichever format you choose, is on our what to expect during WordPress training page.

On-site training for staff and teams

When two or more people share responsibility for a website, training them together beats training them separately: everyone hears the same answers, the division of labor gets negotiated in the room, and the website’s quirks get explained once.

We train in-house marketing teams, IT departments, and leadership groups, and mixed skill levels within one group are normal, not a problem; the agenda is built to keep everyone moving. Class size is limited to six participants, because past six, private training stops being private.

Group training is $1,297 per person for 2 to 3 people and $997 per person for 4 to 6, with travel billed for on-site delivery. Full pricing is on the WordPress training page.

Which format should you choose

Some people learn best with an instructor in the same room, and that preference is reason enough to book in person; nothing about our format pricing pushes you either way, because there isn’t any format pricing.

If you’re leaning virtual but doubt your ability to learn over Zoom, or suspect you’ll miss something that comes with being in the room, that worry is common, and it usually dissolves in the first hour: your instructor sees exactly what you see, you’re the one at the controls the whole time, and the recording catches anything that went by too fast. One caveat about virtual training: if verbal communication isn’t your strength, being in the room together is worth more than the recordings.

Teams usually choose on-site for the shared-room effect. Individuals split about evenly, and Emily herself learned as a virtual student; that experience is part of why she became a WordPress trainer.

Exactly what I needed

“The virtual training was exactly what I needed to get up to speed on handling our website. The bonus was that we addressed all of my current updates during the sessions, and I have a list of ongoing improvements that I know exactly how to handle. Having the training sessions broken into 2 four-hour sessions allowed me to get started – and then try things by myself with another chance to clear up anything I didn’t quite get. Thanks!”

How to get started

Step 1: Tell us about your website and your group. One person or six, we start with what you want to be able to handle yourself.

Step 2: Set the dates and the place. Our training coordinator schedules your sessions, introduces your instructor, and arranges travel if training is at your location. Typically we can schedule about two weeks out.

Step 3: Learn by doing. Two intensive 4-hour sessions in your own website, wherever we've agreed to meet.

Frequently asked questions about in-person WordPress training

Can we hold the training at our office?

Yes. We deliver on-site training across the U.S. and Canada, with travel billed in addition to the training package.

Can a co-worker join my training session?

Yes, and it changes the price: two or three people train at the group rate of $1,297 per person. If budget is the obstacle, there's a workaround we'll point out ourselves: virtual sessions are recorded, and the recording is yours to share with anyone on your team after training.

Do larger organizations need anything special?

Sometimes. Enterprise IT departments often require training to happen in a staging copy of the website rather than the live site. We're used to it; we'll coordinate the details with your team before training begins.

Can the training be split into shorter blocks instead of 4-hour sessions?

No. We've tried shorter blocks, and they lose the momentum that makes an intensive session productive; you spend the first half hour of every short session rebuilding the context the last one created. Two 4-hour sessions is the format because it's the one that works.

How does virtual training compare with in-person training?

Both formats are hands-on and customized to your website. Virtual training is conducted over Zoom and includes recordings of your sessions, while in-person training takes place at your office or one of ours. If verbal communication isn’t your strength, in-person training may be the better fit. Otherwise, the choice comes down to how you prefer to learn and work with your instructor.

Tell us where you'd like to train.
